Wild Things Nighttime Tours
After dark, things get pretty lively at Wild Things animal facility.
A costumed tour guide leads the brave and bold visitor through
the grounds, relating myths (and facts!) about exotic wild animals.
Refreshments follow, plus a photo opportunity with a "scary" Halloween
Historic Home Tour
Selected Victorian and historic homes, bed & breakfasts, and churches
open their doors to visitors on this self-guided tour. Docents
in period costume offer traditional hospitality to match the mood
of each building.
15th Annual Jade Festival
Of all the secrets of Big Sur, its rare and lovely jade may be
the best kept. Discover jade, gems, wood and stone at this weekend
festival, held at Pacific Valley School, 65 miles south of Monterey,
35 miles north of Hearst Castle.
Elementary school children parade in butterfly costumes to welcome
the return of the Monarch butterfly to its winter home. Community
Fall Home Show
Monterey County Fairgrounds, Monterey
Pick up tips on decorating for the holidays along with tasteful
furnishings and fittings for every home.
It takes a bold musician to translate Mark Twain's immortal Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn into a musical, but the inspired songs
of Roger ("King of the Road") Miller do a splendid job.
MPC's Drama Department, directed by Peter DeBono, brings Thornton
Wilder's classic play about small-town life, love, and community
to the Morgan Stock Stage.
8th Annual Marina Air Faire
This free event at the Marina Airport showcases vintage, experimental,
contemporary aircraft and warbirds. Airplane rides, aviation booths,

duckies: it's The Farm's Pumpkin Race! Hayrides and puppet shows,

There's a lively Latin accent to the Monterey Bay Aquarium during
the Fiesta del Mar, the Festival of the Sea, part of the Oceans
2006 Year of Exploring for families and kids who love learning
about our oceans.
Monterey Sports Car Championships
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Saturday afternoon-into-evening four-hour race featuring the season
finale for the prestigious American Le Mans Series. The series
features Le Mans prototypes and GT cars, many of which compete
and win in the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. The weekend schedule
will include IMSA's Porsche GT3 series and the Star Mazda series.

26th Annual Big Sur River Run
10K foot race and 5K walk amongst the redwoods and along the Big
Sur River to benefit local charities.
Championship Marching Band Festival
Approximately 30 high school marching bands compete in parade and
Celebrate the harvest by decorating a pumpkin or building your
own scarecrow, then combine the fun with a ride on a steam train.
Ride the steam train into a haunted redwood forest in pursuit of
the legendary headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow. One of America's

Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee transformed the real-life Scopes
Monkey Trial of 1925 into cutting-edge drama in 1955; the play
- and the issues it explores - are as vital 51 years later. Thought-provoking
Carmel's 90th Birthday Party
Join Carmelites as they celebrate the city's official birthday
with a morning parade followed by a barbecue. (Unofficially, Carmel
is 103 years old, as its first developer laid out its streets in
Monterey County Fairgrounds, Monterey
A little mysterious exploration of the spirit world will prime
your Hallowe'en experience, even if it starts in the sturdy buildings
of the Fairgrounds.
Fall Arts & Wine Festival
Original hand-made arts and crafts exhibition and sale. All artists
on-site, as well as food, drink and family entertainment. Special
wine-tasting event, too!
Big Sur Half Marathon and 5K Run
Two fun-filled events for runners at all levels. The Big Sur Half
Marathon begins and ends in downtown Monterey, taking in Cannery
Row and Pacific Grove along the way. The "Run Forrest Run 5K" is
sponsored by Bubba Gump's restaurant, complete with entertainment
along the course.
Pop by the Del Monte Center to meet the "Picasso of Pumpkin Carvers," Farmer
Mike - who will take on a 700-pound behemoth from Borchard Farms.

Halloween Bal Masque
Come to dine and dance beneath the moon on the terrace of Nepenthe,
one of Big Sur's signature dining spots, at the annual masked costume
party. Proceeds benefit the Big Sur Fire Service.
Jeffers Tor House Fall Festival
Annual event includes re-enactments, special readings, speakers,
theatre, music, benefit luncheon, sunset celebration, guided beach
walks and more, all celebrating the life and works of early 20th
century poet Robinson Jeffers.
Salinas (TBA), Carmel (TBA)
Max Bragado-Darman conducts the opening night performances of the
2006-2007 Monterey Symphony season.
44th Annual Great Sandcastle Contest
This is serious sandcastle building: the event, held on Carmel's
lovely white-sand beach, is co-sponsored by the Monterey chapter
of the American Institute of Architects. Build a cottage or castle:
it's fun for all ages!
